O vocalista faz algumas participações com o Siouxie and the Banshees e o The Cure só volta em 1984, com “The Top”, trazendo no line up Phil Tornalley no baixo e Andy Anderson na bateria.
Mas essa formação não duraria muito. Boris Willians, Porl Thompson e o antigo baixista, Simon Gallup integram o time e “The Head On The Door” chega ao topo das paradas nos EUA e na Inglaterra.
Uma coletânea de singles, intitulada “Standing on a Beach”, saiu em 1986 e o inédito “Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me”, veio no ano seguinte e, além da faixa-título, também foram muito executadas ‘‘Why Can’t I Be You?’’ e “Catch” e “Just Like Heaven”.
Auto-intitulado, o material contou com a produção de Ross Robinson (Korn, Limp Bizkit e At The Drive-In).
